Water Resources Junior Engineer - Ottawa

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Water Resources, has responsibility for hydrological hydraulic modeling and processing GIS database. Will provide technical support in the design of stormwater management facilities and the preparation of technical reports.

Education

Minimum requirement is a Bachelor Degree from a recognized Canadian University, in Civil Engineering with focus on water resources. Completed courses will include Hydrology, Hydraulic or Fluid Mechanics.

Experience

No minimum experience is required. Candidate is willing to undergo training.

Certificate/License:

  • Eligible to apply for Professional Engineer of Ontario.
  • Valid Class "G" license with no more than 7 demerit points.

Vehicle

Occasional use of personal vehicle required.

Language

Oral fluency, reading and writing ability in English.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of hydrology, hydraulic and GIS
  • Microcomputers applications in engineering applications using spreadsheets and word processing
  • Principles of engineering design to create cross-sections and profiles from a plan-view

Abilities to:

  • Undergo training
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Maintain strong interpersonal relations with staff
  • Work well under pressure

Working Conditions

Normally, work is performed in an office environment. Requires occasional visits to construction sites, where there is exposure to traffic, dirt, fumes, obnoxious odors and bad weather.

Salary is dependent on education and relative experience.
